Sthayi Yogic Jeevan Shaili is an innovative environmental education initiative launched by Conserve India with support from the Morimura Fund and the Directorate of Education, Delhi. Rooted in the ancient philosophy of Panchtatva—Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space—the program integrated scientific learning, sustainability, and mindfulness to foster holistic well-being and environmental awareness among middle school students. Through experiential workshops, open space creation, and thematic activities, the project engaged over 250 students and 22 educators, promoting eco-friendly behaviours, emotional resilience, and values-based education. Aligned with NEP 2020, the initiative offers a replicable framework to embed climate consciousness and personal wellness into school curricula.

A Panchtatva-Inspired Path to Environmental Education and Well-Being
What we did
Conserve India, in partnership with the Morimura Fund and with support from the Directorate of Education (DoE), designed and implemented Sthayi Yogic Jeevan Shaili—a groundbreaking initiative to embed environmental awareness and personal well-being into the education of middle school students across Delhi/NCR. Anchored in the Indian philosophical concept of Panchtatva—Earth (Prithvi), Water (Jal), Fire (Agni), Air (Vayu), and Space (Akasha)—the program blended scientific education, yoga, mindfulness, and sustainability into a unified framework aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The initiative delivered hands-on learning experiences such as waste audits, gardening, soil testing, and water filtration, alongside creative and emotional development through storytelling, breathwork, and meditative practices. Activities were conducted in 4 schools with the support of 22 teachers and principals
Why It Matters
Environmental education in public schools is often fragmented, under-resourced, and disconnected from student experiences. Sthayi Yogic Jeevan Shaili addresses this gap by using culturally rooted, scientifically informed pedagogy that speaks to both head and heart. By introducing children to sustainability through Panchtatva, the program fosters lifelong behavioral change, builds emotional intelligence, and prepares students to lead in an uncertain climate future.
A baseline study highlighted critical gaps—such as a lack of composting infrastructure, minimal curriculum integration of sustainability, and limited teacher training. This initiative responds directly to those needs while enabling broader systemic change through alignment with the DoE and NEP 2020.
Sthayi Yogic Jeevan Shaili is cultivating a new generation of environmentally conscious, emotionally resilient students—equipped to nurture both the planet and their inner worlds through balance, empathy, and action.
Outcomes
- Enhanced environmental literacy and understanding of climate action and circular economy principles for 250+ students
- Emergence of student sustainability leaders in 8 schools.
